MANHATTAN, Kan. | OK, Wildcats Nation, fess up. You gave up on Carson Coffman after that miserable second quarter. You screamed at the TV or cell phone or however you consumed Saturday’s tense opener against UCLA after Coffman got sacked waiting too long to make a play or fumbled away the snap.

ST. LOUIS | No one’s words — or actions — cut closer to the heart of Missouri’s 23-13 victory over Illinois on Saturday than those of Carl Gettis. “We came out with our ‘A’ game in the second half,” said Gettis, a senior cornerback who made an acrobatic interception in the fourth quarter.

ST. LOUIS | Blaine Gabbert didn’t mean it as a metaphor. How could he? He’s a quarterback, not a philosopher, and if he wanted to get his Shakespeare on about where the Missouri football team was and where it is going, he probably wouldn’t do it in front of a bunch of reporters

LAWRENCE | For the most part, Kansas coach Turner Gill has come off as a pretty mild-mannered guy during his eight-plus months in Lawrence. Sure, he can be boisterous when the situation demands something extra, but overall, he’s tried to keep his emotions in check — especially when it comes to his public appearances. Well, all of that will go out the window on Saturday. It will be game day, and Gill admits that on those 12 days in the fall, he doesn’t feel much different from the kid who quarterbacked Nebraska to the 1983 Orange Bowl.
